Help Teacher Sosa

I am turning my students into our future leaders of America by making their super-hero dreams become realities. I am a new Teach For America, 2nd grade teacher who just graduated from college and will be teaching in a low-income school where my children are in serious need of resources. I want to develop above level readers in my classroom so my students need books to read. As I am working to close the achievement gap, my students need to increase their literacy levels by reading as much as they can everyday so by donating books to my students you are helping them gain the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve in school.

Because I am teaching in an inner-city school all my students come from low-income backgrounds in which the proper resources are not available to them. My students don't have easy access to books they need at home so by providing my students with an outstanding classroom library I hope to fill that gap. As a 2nd grade teacher, I need to build a strong literacy foundation for my students so that they are achieving at the same levels as high-income students. So by providing my students with the books they need you are helping to close the achievement gap that lies between my students and their peers who are more privileged and have these resources readily available to them.

In order to make my classroom library an excellent one, I need books and pillows. The list of books I have provided are books that I have selected that fall into the age group and level by which my students should and will be reading by the end of their academic year with me. I have chosen books that I, not only remember reading as a kid, but are also best-sellers so that my students get the best of the best. I want my students to read books they can enjoy, relate to, and learn things from. Therefore by purchasing these books for my students you are helping them become super-star readers who can and will achieve. I have also requested pillows for my classroom library so that my students have a comfortable place to sit and read. I currently have a carpet and shelves but no books or pillows so by providing pillows for my students, you are also providing an area of comfort for them to just relax and enjoy their books.

As Gandhi once said, "[we] must be the change we want to see in the world," so by providing my students with a functioning classroom library with books and pillows you are helping me close the achievement gap. So please help my students turn their super-hero dreams into reality so that they may become our future heroes and leaders of America.
