Our school is a Title I STEM-focused school located in Houston, Texas. We host a number of STEM-themed clubs, including an all-girls STEM GEMS club!
For our upcoming year, we are in need of supplies for two exciting new STEM-themed units to introduce to a rotating group of girls in grades 3, 4, and 5.
The first project is a collaboration with a local jewelry designer and business owner; students will learn all about what makes a business run successfully, as well as merchandising concepts. They will then get the chance to design and create their own piece of jewelry to "sell" in their mock-up store, giving them real-world experience. Our guest will come speak with the girls and "shop" their creations!
One other project is a Snap Circuits project, rotating between different stations of themed Snap Circuits: green energy, classic, coding, and arcade. Through these stations, the STEM GEMS will learn not only about science concepts, but also computer science as well!
I am passionate about making STEM education accessible to all students and especially to girls, who may not otherwise have a chance to explore and be hands-on with STEM.
