My Students

Our school is close to two military bases, and many of my kids are the children of deployed military personnel. The school is urban and old. We do not qualify for Title I, but 68% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students are here in the United States for the first time, and English is not their first language. My students have limited access to libraries, books and technology outside of school. Right now, they are often bullied because they do not have the financial support that other students have.

My fourth graders want to learn about computers and computer programming, but the majority of them do not have funds for frills like computers, technology, books or recreational activities.

My Project

My fourth graders are ready to learn a new language. They want to learn the language of computer programming, but they need the help of donors to get the tools they need. They need a Wonder Workshop Dash and Dot Robot Pack, an Osmo coding set, and a book about coding games. I plan to begin by introducing students to the graphic novels about Ricky Ricotta. Then students will begin using the Osmo coding set and then programming the Dash and Dot robot.

Coding is the tool of the 21st century, and, with this project, my students will be learning computer programming while creating new adventures for the robots and bringing them to life.

Wonder Workshop and Dash and Dot Robots will provide an age appropriate way for all my students to learn, dream and push the boundaries of their world. Please help them.
