My Students

My students are the sweetest learners who walk through our doors from all walks of life eager to be loved and to learn. We are a rural school nestled in the Smoky Mountains. Many of our students never leave the county or state, so it is our job to educate them on the world around them and give them the tools they need to be successful.

My students are creative, kindhearted, funny, curious, and very driven when it comes to learning new things.

Our school has around 750 students in grades 6-8. I teach around 100 of these students in my 6th grade classroom. We have a growing classroom library that is full of wonderful books that my students enjoy reading, but we want to expand that library to include even more!

Through an expansive classroom library, students can be exposed to so many different characters, events, places, and stories. Readers are leaders and I want my students to be top tier!

My Project

Books can take you anywhere. By reading just a few pages of a novel, you can suddenly be in a totally different place, time period, or in someone else's shoes. Reading is the vehicle to take students to a brand new world. This project would expand our classroom library with new and exciting books that are high interest for students.

I believe that anyone who says that they do not like reading simply has not found the right book for them yet.

By having a diverse classroom library with a variety of books at the fingertips of students, they are more likely to pick up a book that they love, transporting them to a new place.

We also are a little old fashioned and use paper and pencil for most things. Pencils get used soooo often and students ask me daily to borrow a pencil. Having a large supply will help keep our pencil bin fully stocked.
