This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a diverse group of students, but all of them love and engage with hands-on experiences! My students are from many different cultures and socioeconomic statuses. It is truly amazing to watch these students appreciate the diversity of others.

My students absolutely love doing hands-on, interactive science!

With more than three-quarters of our students from low-income households, many students lack experiences that you would expect of a high school student. I hope to give them an updated learning experience that would inspire and grow their love for science!

A high percentage of my students are English language learners and/or have learning challenges. These students crave and need a hands-on approach to science!

My Project

COVID-19 has caused many learning challenges within our classrooms. The most glaring concern is a lack of engagement and learning gaps in student education. With students at home, learning engagement became more difficult than ever. With high school students, this lack of engagement has been difficult to overcome as students transition back to the classroom and back again to distance learning. Students seem disconnected from their education.

As many environmental science state standards require student mastery of modeling, the items being purchased here (hydroelectric paddlewheels, thermohaline circulation kit, a fully functional freshwater aquarium hardware set-up, and a moving Earth/Sun/Moon modeling kit), will all enhance the environmental science learning experience.
