Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When I was in 7th grade, I pretended to be sick to avoid our frog dissection. Luckily, my mother caught on and sent me to school- and the dissection was amazing! Please help my students, who have been asking about dissections since the second day of school, get to enjoy this valuable experience.

My students are a highly engaged, very curious, incredibly motivated group of 8th and 9th-graders from all over Brooklyn.

Our school is a very small 6-12 school, which allows students to get to know their teachers VERY well during the 7 years they spend here. The culture here is amazing- students are guided in caring, kind and respectful behavior not only by the faculty, but by older students who lead by example. This is the happiest place in which I have ever taught, and really love going to work.

My Project

Picture a lab room filled with microscopes, beakers, experiments happening all over the place. If my students had their way, that is how our room would look every day. As it is, we have one lab day per week, and try to hold as many engaging project-based lessons as we can during the remaining time. With the donation of frogs, my students will get several extra lab days as they explore the digestive, reproductive, integumentary and cardiovascular systems of their frog and compare them to that of a human, allowing them to compare and contrast the various anatomies and their respective functions.

A donation to this project will thrill my students!

They will be able to make comparisons among organisms that they wouldn't have a chance to do without actual frogs to dissect, and I predict that at least a few of the 90 students who will get to participate in this dissection will decide that they are interested in exploring some type of medicine when they grow up.
