Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 10th graders have spent the semester learning to become more persuasive writers and speakers. They are passionate, enthusiastic, and creative young learners who love engaging in activities like 4 corner debates and Socratic Seminars. My students come from a variety of ethnic, economic, and religious backgrounds, and our community values diversity both outside the classroom and in our curriculum. Through respectful academic discourse, my students are learning how to engage in sophisticated and meaningful discussions about social, political, and philosophical issues. Through literature, my students are learning to be more compassionate people.

My Project

With a class set of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, I can help my students better understand historical events, political speeches, and Shakespearean language. Through analysis of rhetorical strategies, my students will be able to analyze advertisements, literature, and political speeches with a more critical eye.

Within this unit, my students will engage in Reader's Theatre, short acting exercises, close-reading analysis, and debates.

They will also analyze the 1953 film adaptation with Marlon Brando. As a culminating assignment, all of my students will write essays on topics of their choosing ranging from fate and free will to gender roles represented in the text.
