My Project

Hey there! Thank you for checking out my project. My name is Ms. S and I want to create an environment for my class where students feel connected, have fun, and mentally feel safe. I'm a firm believer in learning through play; studies show the positive impacts of brain development, creativity, as well as the benefits of social and emotional development.

Have you ever felt alone at a place or event?

All of my students come from different neighborhoods in New York City; they do not know each other, or have never had class with one another before this. I want them to develop relationships with one another and show them that they share so many similarities and amazing differences. I want to create a sense of community between these students, who at this moment, feel like they don't have much in common.

These items will make a difference in their learning by allowing them to break those bonds of nervousness and open up to each other through the means of fun and play. I'd like them to disconnect from devices and socialize with one another, learn from one another, and have a journey of personal growth as they navigate these stressful years of adolescence. I've asked for switch games because I am donating my personal switch to the classroom. I have also asked for card games such as "we're not really strangers" so students can understand one another on a deeper level.

My goals for this project are to create a space in which students feel safe, valued, have a sense of community while they are adjusting a new environment, as well as finding who they are.
