Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 5th grade English Language Arts at a Title I school in the Bronx, New York. The majority of my students come from economically-disadvantaged households. The students in my class have a wide range of learning styles, interests, strengths and weaknesses, and backgrounds. Despite their many unique qualities, one thing that my students have in common is a strong desire to learn that is sometimes hindered by a lack of resources.

Although every day they are faced with many challenges both in and out of their homes, they come to school eager to learn.

My students are creative, funny, hardworking and determined to do their best! These kids face many difficulties including taking responsibilities beyond their ages, yet when they arrive to school they are just like any kids, filled with a passion to learn more about the world.

My Project

With the school year almost over, some of us are already planning for the next year. I work in a Title I school where all of my students are eligible for free school breakfast and free lunch.

With the beginning of the new year, my students come excited and ready for a new adventure.

I'm asking for basic school supplies that will be used immediately at the beginning of the school year, such as pencils, markers, crayons, glue, pens, folders, post-its, and the like. I want my parents and students to just be excited for the new adventure that we are about to embark. These items are essential for students to grow, explore and succeed in the second grade! The new materials will create a space that is ready for learning and will let the students know that fifth grade is a place to explore, be curious, and learn from each other!
