My Students

My classroom is organized chaos. We are always having fun while we are learning! My classroom is filled with students that barely have the basic necessities, much less the materials they need for school.

Our school has a high poverty rate, with most students receiving free or reduced-priced lunches.

For many students in our area, school is where they experience many "firsts" or new things. Some students have never even traveled more than 30 minutes from home. It is amazing how they can accomplish so much with so little.

My Project

I'll be teaching 8th grade this year and need interesting new books for my students. I want to provide a variety of books for my students to read to open up their minds to different cultures and perspectives.

These books will provide insight into a part of our history that many young people don't know about.

These books will also allow students to view a different culture from a young girls' perspective.

Thank you for your help to purchase a set of Chasing Lincoln's Killer and a set of The House on Mango Street.
