My Project

My students are enthusiastic 4th-graders. They are bilingual and learn to read, write and speak in both English and French at school. For our French book club unit, it is crucial to provide my students with interesting fictional books with whose characters they can connect to.

This selection of books presents main characters that have to overcome struggles that many of my students face: immigration, exclusion, racism... Once a group has identified a book they'd like to read, students alternate between independent reading time and rich discussions about their reading.
