My Project

Our principal just got us a freeze drier and we need to learn how to properly use it. These mylar bags and desiccant packets will be used to put the finished freeze dried products in to share with classmates and people at our school. When we learn to master the machine we can expand into doing other items, but for now we will practice with Skittles and whatever produce we can grow on the farm like bananas and papayas.

Freeze dried products are the new rage everywhere, and it's our chance to get in on the fun!

We will start with the Skittles because everyone says it's the easiest and move on to strawberries, bananas and other fruits when available. This will allow us to learn another food preservation method to fall back on in our quest to be more self-sustainable. It is said that freeze dried products can last 25 years or longer and this will give us the ability to feed ourselves if anything should happen where we do not have access to fresh food.
