Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This group of third graders are so eager to learn this school year. After a few bumpy years, these students are understanding what is means to belong in a structured classroom. My grade level partner and I switch our students. I teach math and science, and she teaches ELA. On average I see about 40 students a day. As you can imagine school supplies are constantly used. I want to provide my students with as many opportunities as I can. DonorsChoose has help us out tremendously!

My Project

Fractions are a difficult concept to understand, even for adults. My third graders are currently learning fractions. Fraction tiles are a great hands-on resource for math. I first introduce a 1 whole, and then halves, thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, eighths, tenths, and twelfths. We use fractions everyday for cooking, building things, measuring and so much more! I believe these fraction tiles will help build a solid foundation for learning math. I tell my students to treat their fraction tiles "like gold", because we need to keep the sets complete for future students. I thank you in advance for contributing to my third graders.
