Fractions Are People Too!

Help me give my students a stress free life of fractions. Fractions are hard to grasp and using dice and dominos will make learning more fun.

My Students

My kids are amazing, plain and simple! They are from all over the world, speak different languages, and have many struggles at home but they come to school every day with a positive attitude and ready to learn.

They get excited about hands on learning because it is something most of them have never had the opportunity to experience before.

Many of my kids come from refugee camps and have missed out on years of school so being able to experience what I am teaching them instead of trying to picture it is so crucial to their learning and remembering.

My Project

When I was in college algebra, we would groan every time my professor would say anything about fractions. She would always reply, "Fractions are people too!" It always brought back fears of trying to do fractions throughout life. I struggled with them until I learned how to use them with manipulatives and have a hands on grasp of what they were.

Just practicing fraction problems from a worksheet isn't going to help my kids be successful.

They need hands on manipulatives to help them visualize how to solve problems using different operations. They will be able to use these tools in a group setting. In groups, they can play games and help each other with understanding.
