Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are motivated and want to keep progressing! Many of my students have obstacles to their learning. They come from Spanish speaking homes of low-income communities. All of my students receive free lunch.
These students get up early each morning to meet me at 7:00 a.m.
They come every day, Monday through Friday, September through May! Even my students from the previous years beg to come to tutoring. They are being tutored in reading and math. About one-fourth of my class is reading at first-grade level, and two-fourths are reading at second-grade level, while only one fourth is reading just at grade level. No matter what level they are I am dedicated to moving them forward. Teaching them how to be confident and successful! They are always willing to take on new challenges!
My Project
Understanding how to make a fraction for students comes very easy through cutting a square equally and shading in the fractional part. But when it come to comparing or ordering fractions students seem to get stuck. If the students had their own individual set of fraction tiles they would be able to concretely visualize the fractions they will compare and order. This set uses bright colors to represent the different fraction units. Fraction tiles can also help students to understand how to move from a concrete shape to representing the fraction on a number line! Fraction tiles will develop a deeper understanding of fractions.
