My Project

Reading is an airplane that takes you to magical places in minutes. Reading allows students to enter into a place a create an imaginary world that allows them safety, even for a little while. Many of my students despised reading before coming to me. They couldn't understand the importance of reading an article or a book. Throughout the year students became enthralled in books they could relate to.

In all their years of reading, they never saw characters who looked like them, acted like them, or talked like them.

I teach at a middle school where the majority of my students are minorities. I want to give my students something I never received. Relatability. The books I've chosen will allow my students to see themselves in a new and exciting way. It will allow them to dream. It would allow them to be.
