My Students

My rising fourth graders are hard working scholars that had quite a rough year as third graders. Their third grade language arts teacher was out almost half a year due to a serious illness. They didn't have a full year with a teacher for language arts. Needless to say, they crave having a full year teacher.

I want to inspire them to love reading and writing, not just for school purposes but for a lifetime.

I would pop in to get to know them throughout the year. As the school year was winding down, they would see me in the hallways and hug me because they were so excited I was going to be their fourth grade teacher. I need to make this year magical because they deserve it!

My Project

This is my third year teaching fourth grade and I have been allowed to create my own curriculum for teaching language arts. What better way to get kids excited about loving to read than to teach with the Harry Potter series as my go to mentor texts? My classroom is decorated already with all the flags from the houses depicted from Hogwarts, so I'm ready.

I will be teaching two very different homerooms.

One homeroom is on reading level and will be able to read along with me. The other homeroom is not on or close to fourth grade reading level. I believe that the other homeroom will want to also read the Harry Potter novels, but will struggle. This is where the audio versions of the books will really help out. I will set up an audio station where the other homeroom would be able to enjoy the stories by listening to them and following along with the book.
