My students are amazing! They are intelligent, driven, curious, and kind. Because I work with a diverse student population, I am granted an opportunity to learn something new everyday.
Nina is a bibliophile who is developing her skills as an artist by interning for MASS ART. Brandon studies martial arts and is constantly reading Manga. Christopher introduced me to the "Shakespeare's Star Wars" series and the joy of bento box lunches. Macy is a lively students who is involved in the Academy Actors and works for the local Boys and Girls Club. Caroline has recently been inducted into National Honor Society, loves to travel, and is president of the Book Club. Irene is a dancer, poet, budding chef, and gardener.
I am proud of all the students who volunteer in the library. They are eager to help their school library become a better place for everyone in the school community.
This is technology that is just beginning to be used in the college and university libraries. By implementing the use of the Chromebooks in connection to the fitdesks, students who have a challenging time sitting still and concentrating will have the opportunity to conduct school work in the library while staying seated. Students will increase his or her critical thing skills and research skills by using the new technology under librarian supervision. Students will be able to complete school work before, during, and after school. This will allow students to problem solve and work on themselves in a way that is beneficial to both their schoolwork and life after high school.
In Their Own Words
The goal I am trying to accomplish this year is to get four Chromebooks for the fitdesks that I'm trying to acquire for my library. I want the library to be known as more than a place for bookworms, I want everybody to feel comfortable going to the library for resources and I think that fitdesks will be a good place to start. The fitdesks will attract athletes to the library because it will balance both the schoolwork and fitness aspect of their lives. The only way to fully appeal to people is if the fitdesks are the best that they can be, and the way to do this is to have them fully equipped with Chromebooks.
I will make the most of this leadership opportunity by making sure that everyone the BLA community knows that the library needs more technology. I will lead a team of students to make posters, flyers, and brochures. I will mail these items to parents and put them in teachers mailboxes. I will also utilize social media and make sure to spread the work that way.
This project is important to my school community and me because so often these days you see kids focusing on their schoolwork or their fitness (whether its through sports or personally) separately, which can lead to leaving one aspect behind when its so important to balance both. Having a Chromebook for each fitdesk in our library will allow students to see that its possible to balance both in a way thats beneficial to both aspects of their lives.
