Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students want to learn how to draw, paint and sculpt, to be artists. The majority of my students are excited to be in an art room because they have not had it since the 3rd grade. I want my students to have an understanding of the elements and principles of art and design.

My students come from all over New York City.

More than 65% get free lunch and come from families that can not fully provide for them. My students like the small school environment, the faculty, & each other. They want to learn to draw (they expressed this in a survey I took at the beginning of the year). They lack the confidence that they can be artists and I want to show them how they can. All freshman are required to take my foundations of art course and I want to make it 100% worth their while.

My Project

The materials I have requested will help my students grasp concepts such as color harmonies and relationships. They will use the colored pencils, paint and paper to create many projects including small studies and large paintings. My students will be able to create artwork that they are proud of and pieces I can hang around the school to show the other students. I would LOVE to have an arts night! (Something that has not been done at my school). These materials would really mean a lot to my students and I, please help make this possible.

These donations will allow me to teach multiple projects to my foundations of art classes.

It will allow me to teach the students more techniques and solutions for their projects. It will expose them to different mediums and materials, and allow their creativity to shine.
