Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My elementary school-aged students have experienced the social impact of COVID-19 as well as the decreased social interactions of the technological age. Many of my students require support to learn the necessary skills and vocabulary of the social world. The visual elements in picture books and toys aid comprehension for visual learners. The hands-on approach provided through toys helps students understand turn-taking, sharing, and empathy in a safe, controlled environment.
The books, toys, and sensory materials of this project will help provide lessons that are engaging and make abstract social concepts and vocabulary more concrete and memorable.
These resources will provide concrete ways to learn vocabulary to describe feelings and social interactions while modeling appropriate responses.
