My Students

My students in our transfer school are looking for a place to belong. Our school provides a second chance for students ages 16-21 to get a high school diploma at an accelerated pace. A variety of social, emotional, and/or economic issues have caused these young adults to not succeed in a traditional high school. However, instead of dropping out, my students chose to come to our school as a second chance in order to become high school graduates. These young men and women persevere through daily struggles, some that most adults could not handle, but make it a priority to come to school everyday to make a better life for themselves.

Our school provides students the academic help and guidance that they need to graduate, but we also provide a safe haven and a place they look forward to coming to every day.

We work daily to help foster a sense of belonging for our students, and want to continue to build a community among students that were not successful in a traditional school setting.

My Project

My students love to express themselves through fashion, but do not always have the financial opportunity to do so.

Our school is a second home for my students, this project will allow them to beautify their school and express themselves and their love for art, fashion, and design.

We plan to utilize the Cricut and vinyl to create decals that could bring life to our hallways and classroom. The students will be able to design shirts and bags that they can proudly display and motivate others in the school to join the class. We are a Title 1 school in a low income area and despite our best efforts it does not resemble the schools our students see on TV and movies. Though we try our best to make it welcoming this project will allow students to decorate the halls and classrooms to make it a place that they look forward to attending every day. We were graciously provided a Cricut earlier this school year and it has students motivated, students that traditionally had poor attendance to come to school and succeed. We would like to continue to foster this love and need for creativity by creating a fashion and design class. The materials listed will allow us to have a full class of students see their work come to life and even allow us to have a club after school for the students that don't have room in their schedule to attend the class.
