Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a school in one of the poorest congressional districts in the country in the South Bronx. With the pandemic, more than half or our students are learning remotely and the others are engaging in blended learning.

Our hispanic, black and brown students are eager to learn and grow as readers and leaders!

My Project

Throughout the pandemic we have sent students home with books to read. Many of those books have not made it back to us, but who cares right, our readers have books at home to read and share with their families! However, we need to begin replenishing our classroom libraries as more student return back to school for in person learning.

A well-stocked library that has books that students can access, explore, see themselves in the characters, and learn about the world are critical to fostering a love for reading!

We need our students to touch books, flip the pages, look at the colorful pages and share their thinking with their peers.

With these new books, we imagine our students reading independently or with partners, laughing at the silly characters, and a room where reading is one of the highlights of the day!
