This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

"For The Love Of Reading" is a literary project that will help my AP Spanish students practice finding similarities about different reasons why people leave their homes to find a better life in the United States. This project requires the book titled "La Travesia de Enrique", a notebook to write down vocabulary and summaries of the chapters and bookmarks to keep track of their reading.

As the AP Spanish students read the story from the book, they will compare the journey of Enrique, a fictional character, with the journey of Francisco Jimenez, a Mexican-American writer and professor at the University of Santa Clara CA with their own personal journey.

Most of the students in my AP Spanish class come from migrant families who have left their homes back in Latin America in search for the "American Dream". I am certain that my students will relate to either character from each story and make connections. The notes and vocabulary the students collect from the reading will help them create a comparison chart that will then be used to elaborate a cultural comparison within the personal and public identities topic in preparation for the AP Spanish Language Exam.
