Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a 7th-grade Resource Specialist Teacher. The students I teach come from an economically disadvantaged neighborhoods where they were never taught foundational reading skills. Most of my students came to me at the beginning of the school year with K-1st reading levels. Since reading is a foundational skill required for all subjects, my students continually struggle and need more motivation to learn in their general education classes.

Although my students face adversity, they come to school daily with a positive attitude and give their all.

Since the beginning of school, we have been working hard on becoming fluent and confident readers! My students have all grown as readers (which can be proven by their improved Lexile scores!). The requested items will give my students an engaging and safe space that will foster their love for reading. The reading materials chosen were all items that students want to read and can read independently.
