This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in southwest Miami-Dade. My kindergarten students are amazing kids that have a love of learning.

My kindergarten students are like a box of crayons, each child is unique, but we are together, the picture is complete.

We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion. I teach in a wing of five kindergartens. As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers. My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day.

My Project

My kindergarten students came to me at all different reading levels. Some students are sounding out words and some are reading whole sentences. With an array of books at different levels I will give each child a book that they can master and be able to assess them weekly. This will get them reading whole books and feeling more accomplished with themselves. Even the students struggling will find a book at their reading level that interests them. Their love of reading will grow with the expansion to the limited variety we currently have in the classroom. This will foster a life-changing moment for my little ones.
