Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are AWESOME! They are in a 6th - 8th grade English Language Arts Special Day Class. There are 10 boys and 4 girls in my class. The students have different learning disabilities such as Dyslexia, ADHD, and SLD. While they are all eager to learn, their disabilities can create barriers to their progress.

Their visual, cognitive and auditory processing especially impacts their ability to read.

The majority of the students in the class are reading at a first to third-grade level. Many of the students this year are still struggling with the most basic phonetic skills.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting are for an intensive reading intervention program that is starting next semester. The program will be set up in small group rotations with different skills at each station. The phonics and fluency drill cards will be used for one-on-one instruction. The students will be instructed using multisensory techniques.

By donating to this project, you will not only help to improve and increase student decoding and fluency, but you will ultimately help to increase their overall academic achievement.

I am also requesting low-level/high-interest books. This is so the students can have access to books that are in their current reading range that are interesting to them. As they develop their skills, my hopes are that they will develop a love for reading and see reading as an enjoyable activity instead of a burden.
