My Students

Our kids are gifted and talented students who are bound to make great strides in second grade! Located in Chelsea, Manhattan, my team of students are always ready to face challenges. My students are learning how to use the appropriate tools for becoming responsible citizens of not only our community, but our world.

Ambitious, kind, humorous, open-minded, caring, fearless, and definitely INSPIRING!

These are just a handful of words that can be used to describe my students. Just like the characters from their books, each of my students encounter different experiences. While some experiences may be dealt with ease and others may seem like an array of obstacles, my students ultimately strive for success.

My Project

How familiar are you with the Magic Tree House series and the Boxcar Children series? What about the Junie B. Jones series and Pinky and Rex series? Fun Fact #1: The first books from the Magic Tree House series, Pinky and Rex series, and Junie B. Jones series were published in the early 1990s. Fun Fact #2: The first Boxcar Children book was published in 1924! These series are frequently, if not certainly, found in classroom libraries. These series are fascinating and a large staple in the classroom library, but classroom libraries should offer a variety of children's literature. Let's continue reading the classics and welcome the new!

With this project, the classroom library will be revamped with relevant children's literature.

In order to maximize students' reading interests, it is imperative to have reading materials that students are able to connect to. In addition, this project will offer not only relevant material, but reading materials that would support all ranges of readers. Second grade is the year where students read to study author's crafts, character development, and master their fluency. These books would primarily be used for independent reading, where students can practice skills and strategies taught in reading workshop.
