Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The class is a safe haven, nestled in a community that is losing hope. The cycle of poverty is embedded in most students lives. I am a first year teacher with an abundance of hope, but lacking in the basic supplies. The library I've created from books donated by friends and family is tailored for 2nd

Our classroom is composed of 31 future world-changers.

These students have energy and passion and drive, but the cards are stacked against them. Linguistically, our classroom represents English, Russian, Romanian, Vietnamese, Chuuk, Karen, Somali, Kinyarwanda, Spanish, Purepecha, and French. Learning to read and engaging our imaginations through literacy is our top focus. We are 100% free and reduced lunch, but more specifically, 97% free. I believe this speaks to the intensity of the cycle of poverty and its role in these students lives. You have the opportunity to help grow these world-changers! Put books in the hands of students, books that are the students independent reading level, not grade level, as those two things are very different in this classroom

My Project

Your donation will provide students for years to come with books at various reading levels. Having these books in our classroom will allow these developing readers the opportunity to fall in love with reading. Classic titles, popular reads, all of these books have the potential to spark imaginations, encourage growth, and and thus, change the projection of students' lives.

As cliche as it may be, I firmly believe it takes a village to raise a child.

We all play different roles in the process and I am confident I am filling the role I am best suited for. However, I need the support of the village to be as effective as possible. We need the tools to build the house.
