It all started with a book! A book about Greek gods and goddesses, half-bloods, demigods, and monsters. It started with a story packed with friendship and adventure and the reading bug bit, and it bit hard. As a teacher of 6th grade students at a Title I school, I do anything I can to foster the love of reading and encourage continuing education. So, when I picked up a copy of The Lightning Thief as a way to motivate my classroom of students who live in a high-need and high-risk community, I had no idea the impact one book would make!
I want to make an impact with students and foster the love of reading. I want to tie the 6th grade social studies curriculum and use The Lightning Thief as a way to connect the curriculum. The problem is purchasing enough books to do a literature study of this book as an entire class with no classroom funds.
My students need a classroom set of these books to be used for a literature study as an integrated part of the social studies curriculum.
With your donation you will make it possible for students to share and experience a book that brings the past alive. The book is engaging to students and it is a GREAT way to motivate them. The book has a high interest level and students enjoy making higher level connections and predictions based on what they've learned in social studies. With your donation you will help the reading bug bite!
