My Students

A typical day in my classroom consists of lots of collaboration, sharing ideas, opinions, small group as well as whole group instruction, centers, and constantly moving around the room to work with others. It's very energizing and fast-paced, but we enjoy it! The classroom is a busy place!

My students are in the First Grade.

They are mostly English-Learners who are not proficient in English. This program is designed to get them English proficient ( the ability to read, write, and speak English like a native speaker). My students are great at speaking English, but need to improve in reading and writing English. They are eager to learn and are like sponges, soaking up everything that is taught to them. They give me the energy needed to get through the day. My school is in a high-poverty, gang activity area, but the school as a whole has a caring, compassionate attitude towards the students and the teaching profession.

My Project

The requested materials will truly benefit my classroom learning centers. My students will be able to review sight word vocabulary with the Fishing for Sight Sight Words set. The Community Puppet Set and The Vet Center Set will help my students with their oral language skills in the Dramatic Play Center, while learning about various careers. The set of eight headphones will replace the broken ones in the listening center. My students will be able to hear various stories read to them, which is great for teaching them how to track the words in the story as it is read as well as hearing a great example of reading with the correct intonation as well as expression. The entire set of Science viewers will be used in my science center. My students will be able to view the various slides as well as discuss the various stages of frogs, chickens, butterflies, and other animals. This set will also give my students the oral language opportunities needed since they are learning English.

The donations for my project will enrich my students learning experience in many ways because it will reinforce the skills that I teach daily as well as to give my students an opportunity to think about their future careers.

For example, the community puppet set will help them remember the lesson about the men and women that help us daily in our community. My classroom will become a more interactive and exciting classroom. These additions to my classroom learning center will truly benefit them.
