Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The specific items I’m requesting for this project—such as period kits, hygiene products, educational materials, and interactive resources—will make a profound difference in my students’ learning. These resources will provide my 5th-grade girls with the knowledge and tools they need to feel confident and prepared as they navigate the changes of puberty. By demystifying menstruation and fostering open conversations, these materials will create a safe and empowering environment where students can ask questions, learn practical skills, and build self-confidence.

My goal for this project is to ensure that every girl in my class feels supported, informed, and equipped to embrace this natural part of growing up without fear or embarrassment.

This project is not just about providing hygiene supplies; it’s about fostering self-respect, building resilience, and teaching lifelong skills that will empower these young girls to take care of themselves and advocate for their needs.

What makes my students special is their curiosity, courage, and kindness. Many of my students come from diverse cultural backgrounds, and for some, this might be the first time they are having a candid discussion about this topic in a safe, inclusive space. They are eager to learn and support one another, and this project will help nurture their growing sense of community and mutual respect. By addressing a topic that is often stigmatized, we are creating an environment where every girl feels seen, valued, and empowered.
