This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our working-class community of Glendale Queens does not have easy access to theatre and the arts. Most of my students have never seen a live show. We have been fortunate enough to be selected for the Disney Musical in Schools (DMIS) program. This program gives my students the opportunity to not only SEE a live show, but to be hands-on in all aspects of a musical theatre production.

For the First Time in Forever, we will be bringing musical theater into our community.

From the moment it was announced that we were selected for DMIS, the energy and excitement of my students could not be contained. This project is a dream-come-true for them.

My students are talented, hardworking and very supportive of each other. They can not wait to bring these characters to life and to be able to showcase their talents. In addition to singing and acting, some of my students will be taught the behind the scenes of putting together a musical theatre production. We even established a technical crew that will learn to operate lighting and sound. The magic of Disney has struck again and I see it in the smiles of my students.

My Project

These materials will help us put on several shows of Frozen Kids as part of Disney Musical in Schools - to be held at the end of May. Every student at our school, their families and the entire Glendale community are invited to attend, making musical theatre accessible to all.

These materials will help to launch our musical theatre program, that fills the current gap in the arts for years to come.

Our students are excited to learn how to put on a production that includes lighting, sound, and set design and showcase their talents creating memories of a lifetime.
