My Students

My classroom is filled with children from all over the world who have different learning styles. It is very important for a classroom where the majority of the students are ENLs (English as a New Language) for the teacher to incorporate a listening center.

My students come from all over the world.

The majority of my students are ENL students, they are still learning English. When they go home, they are with guardians who don't speak any English. What a wonderful opportunity it would be for these students to have a listening center and books with CDs. They will hear the English language and these children will also practice their decoding and fluency skills in reading.

My Project

All the children will have time to use the listening center that will be implemented in the classroom once this project gets funded. They will be able to put on head phones and listen to someone read a story as they follow along with the book. Not only will their decoding skills be enhanced but their fluency and being able to follow directions will be as well.

Right now we have 5 headphones in my classroom with no CD player.

We have about 5 books with CDs. When children get their turn to listen to a story by wearing the headphones, using the computer, their faces light up. We need a CD player with more headphones, and books with CDs in order for more children to listen to different stories. Once again, it is very important for children to listen and follow along to a story.
