This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the head coach of the Varsity Football team. We have a Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman team. Last season, our Varsity Mustangs went 6 and 4 in the Liberty Red League, Division 1 North 5. We would like to have a better 2017 season.

Our team is as diverse as our school population, with many members who are immigrants or first generation citizens; our students speak a variety of languages at home and many are of Hispanic or Middle Eastern descent.

The team meets every day during the fall season and does conditioning and strength training in the winter, spring, and summer months. Many of my varsity squad are two or three season athletes. My students must maintain a high GPA and stay in good standing with attendance and discipline.

My Project

My Varsity Football Squad are athletes that need not only strength and conditioning training for their bodies but also for their minds. It is very important that as a coach, I look at the entire picture of my squad and help them to be the best STUDENT Athlete they can be; this means we need Books.

Students are always inspired by professional athletes and I have chosen a selection of football players biographies written by an outstanding sports author for high school students; the football players are a collection of quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs, tight ends, defensive ends, and special teams players: Drew Brees, Brett Favre, Calvin Johnson, JJ Watt, Peyton Manning, and Rob Gronkowski.

I have also included 3 additional books - "Everything I Need to Know I Learned from my Texas Football Coach" for short inspirational stories to share with my team, "Playing through the Whistle" [about the Steelers] and "Hometown Heroes" [about high school football squads].
