My Students

I teach students in the 8th to 12th grade with a range of cognitive, physical, and emotional disabilities in the junior high and high school self-contained classroom. With the help of the high school counselor and my paraprofessionals, we strive to teach our students functional and life skills that will transition over to their own personal life and work after high school.

It takes a collaborative approach to meet all of the needs of each student in my class.

Several of my students want to play football on the professional level when they grow up, so we work closely with the football staff to find jobs that are meaningful and helpful to all in order not to crush their dreams.

All of my students participate in various activities and subjects but learn best by hands-on experiences. They love creating new ideas, products, and trying out experiments we normally find on the internet. They also love interacting with their peers and being included in school wide activities or events.

My Project

The items I am requesting are going to be beneficial in creating meaningful and life long learning. My students often want to become professional football players but due to their disabilities that is not always feasible. The football staff, coaches, and players work really well with my students to allow them to be part of the team and find jobs for them to do as well.

Therefore, the donations of Gatorade mix and coolers will allow them to learn life skills, work at a booth providing a service to the football players, and learn basic economic skills.

But, my students wont be the only ones learning basic economic skills. The players will have to work, arrive to practice on time, positive attitude, good grades, and other criteria to earn tokens. The players will use the tokens in order to barter a cup of Gatorade instead of water during practice.
