Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are third-fifth graders who are full of energy. They visit the gym multiple times per week for a scheduled special. In addition, teachers send students to the gym for recess, community service and character education activities as well as to mentor younger students. The students have adapted to the challenges thrown at them and are not only surviving but thriving in this very different environment. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. They love playing different sports and learning about the positive impact movement have on their bodies minds not only in the gym but across all the disciplines. There are over 900 students in our school! I have a large population of English language learners, many newcomers to the country this year. They are eager to learn and enjoy every minute of it. My students are both general and special education students. They are all amazing kids!

My school gets brand new students almost every week, it is not easy to be a new student, new to the country and not knowing anyone.

A few of my students have asked to start a Foosball and friendship club for their school community where they can welcome new students into our school with open arms, spread kindness throughout our entire school community (not just the kids they will see in their class) and have fun all over a game of Foosball. To make this happen, we are requesting 2 table top foosball tables as well as a freestanding one so there is enough room for everyone to play! The student leaders in this club will also use these tables to facilitate the welcoming of all the 2nd graders as they come to tour the school for orientations as they will be moving up to our school community next year.
