My Project

My advanced Culinary Students discuss the three methods of food preservation: freezing, dehydrating, and canning. Help us acquire the supplies needed to teach students how to can. Each spring and fall, faculty and community members donate fresh fruits and vegetables to our department.

Help us get the materials needed to teach high school students how to properly can homemade jelly, jam, sauces, and salsas while students learn how to can using STEM principles.

The students will be able to learn a valuable life skill (food preservation) while also helping to eliminate food waste and maximize flavor. Canning is a critical skill for students to know especially since it is budget-friendly, convenient, nutritious, and sustainable. Teaching students how to can will allow them to help eliminate food waste while encouraging them to become more in touch with where food while learning STEAM concepts related to food preservation.
