My Project

Our 5th-grade students have the esteemed privilege of teaching and have been studying farming as a form of freedom and learning about food inequality and food justice. In this community, there are many who are not strangers to food insecurity. Their hearts are so big that they want to take action and lead a community service effort to raise a large amount of non-perishable food items to be distributed to families in need.

As leaders and seniors of the school, they are taking an initiative to collect canned and dry food items, then take an active role in sorting the food and packing it in boxes to be distributed in the community.

Our students are so excited about this opportunity to give back, and they are also working diligently on writing opinion papers about the importance of the food justice movement. They are using their writing, technology, and printing skills to create awareness flyers and posters to promote this community service initiative.

Our students are not only collecting any food, but they are intentional about collecting healthy food, low in cholesterol, salt, and other harmful additives. For this, they have to do a lot of research and groundwork to make this service project reach its goal. For this, they are requesting printer cartridges, papers, cardstocks, and some basic supplies when they sit and work on this project after their academic courses. Thank you for acknowledging the value of this community service project and taking an active role in supporting it!
