Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My special education class is part of a LEAP program, which stands for Lifelong Experiences and Academic Program. A big part of my students' education is focused on life skills with the hopes that they can one day be independent and successfully function in society. With that goal in mind, a real-world grocery store set up would be monumental in their education journey.

Students will be able to practice a multitude of skills including differentiating between wants and needs, making a grocery list, working with a budget, and so much more.

Using a life-like grocery store would help make the experience as real as possible for the students while in the safety of the classroom setting. The plan is to take the students to a real functioning grocery store at the end of the school year where students can try out the skills they have been practicing all year long in our classroom.
