Food for Thought

Help me give my students healthy popsicle recipe books and popsicle molds that will serve as a catalyst for a memorable hands-on learning experience.

My Project

The recipe books will be used by students as a mentor text to begin the process of creating their own healthy popsicle recipes. The ceramic plates will be used to allow students, families, and friends to sample the popsicle creations that my students will have developed. These flat bottomed plates pair perfectly with ceramic wonton spoons that will enable my students to offer bite size samples during the culminating “Pop Art Festival." The popsicle molds wil be used by students when refining their recipes. Therefore, these materials will act as a catalyst for true and lasting change in the snacking habits of the students (and their families) in my class. In doing so I hope to foster a more interactive home-school connection with the parents (and families) of my students this year as well as strengthening their understanding of the vital role that making mistakes plays in the process of learning.

“Lesser artists borrow; great artists steal" - Pablo Picasso.

Students will gain hands-on experience in adapting the recipes from Glow Pops to create their own one-of-a-kind culinary creations.

The success of this project will be evidenced by the popsicle recipe book that my students will create collaboratively. Their recipes will include the nutritional benefits of the produce that they’ve chosen to work with. Students learn best when they are allowed the opportunity to apply what they've learned in a way that is unique and meaningful to themselves. This project has unlimited potential to engage students in work that is both academic and creative. Additionally, their participation in the culminating event will allow me to assess their presentation skills.
