My Project

Our mathematical classroom runs on an economic system. The students apply for jobs each semester. They receive their paychecks weekly and make monthly payments for rent, utilities, and phone. This system provides valuable financial instruction and practice and allows the students to earn math books to spend on incentive items such as food.

I am amazed, year after year, at how engaged my students become as they work for their paychecks and strive to earn bonuses for growth and behavior.

Students love this real-life simulation of work for pay! They also consistently beat the state average on standardized tests. I attribute this to the engagement required to fully immerse one's self in our mathematical classroom economy.
