Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an inner-city school in Hartford, CT where one hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch due to our school being in a low-income area. My first-grade students are creative, thoughtful, and unique little humans! They come to school each day ready to share, try, and learn new things.

I need your assistance to help my students escape the barriers of poverty and provide them with the opportunities to be successful in school and life.

My Project

My students often get hungry throughout their school day. They are provided breakfast and lunch but sometimes struggle with the textures or the types of food offered. My students are able to focus and learn more efficiently when they are not thinking about their growling stomachs. Providing them with nutritious snacks allows them to get back to their academics. My students will love having choices that interest them to choose from and that they can enjoy! Healthy snacks are an important part of learning and having help to stock our closet with these would be so greatly appreciated!

It is hard for anyone to do their best work when they are hungry.

By providing my students with readily available healthy snacks, I'm ensuring that their bodies and brains are ready for the learning challenges at school.
