My Students

In my classroom, students learn that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics can be creative, exciting, and filled with purpose. Students learn STEM by addressing authentic problems in our community, city, and on planet earth.

My students are creative and curious 8th graders who bring a broad variety of cultures, languages, learning styles, preferences and needs to my classroom.

Knowing this, I strive to create an environment that is supportive of the diversity my students bring to our school. My aim is to cultivate a positive classroom community that fosters civic engagement through science.

Project-based learning, personalized learning, and authentic learning experiences make sure that every student has an opportunity to learn in a dynamic environment.

My Project

In our current unit, my 8th grade biology students have been learning about the nutrients and biochemical reactions that support life, through the context of urban farming in our city. They've learned that by growing our own food, communities can fight food insecurity, a major problem in our city exacerbated by the pandemic.

This aerogarden will build upon students' biology learning by given them a chance growing fresh greens, herbs and veggies in the science classroom!

Fostering a love of plants as well as a sense of responsibility and stewardship for the natural world. This indoor garden will enrich my students lives in several ways.
