This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My upcoming class will have a variety of needs, and I want to provide them with all the options I can to make their 4th grade year the best it can be!
My students are eager to learn and try new things, but they have the odds stacked against them.
I have general education students and special education students, as well as students learning the English Language in my classroom. I am a fourth-grade teacher in a low-income urban area in New Jersey. More than 90% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
I am privileged to be at the same school for over 20 years. Our school is in an urban area. Many of my students face daily challenges including limited support at home by parents, trauma, and poverty. Despite these challenges, the climate of my classroom is nurturing and sets high expectations for all students.
My Project
This year I am beginning a lunch bunch so that my students and I can enjoy eating together.
I would like to have multiple copies of the same books so we can have a book talk during lunch together.
I want to have us enjoy reading together and talking about the different story elements during a casual time together throughout the week.
Many of my students do not have the opportunity to have brand new books to keep. This lunch bunch will give them the chance to keep the books that we have read together.
