Food for Thought

Help me give my students a snack each day so that they can stay focused on their learning and not on their hungry bellies. The students ask me each day if they will be getting a snack.

My Students

I have a classroom of twenty fourth-grade students who love to learn, but often hunger gets in their way. I need to keep their attention by making sure that I do not have their empty bellies to compete with.

Our small, southern Indiana school is a school-wide Title I facility in which funds are limited.

About 71% of our students receive free or reduced-price breakfast, lunch, and book fees.

When I have tried a class calendar for snacks, it didn't work. Too often a family forgets to send in a class snack on their given day, or they can't afford to send one in. I have also let children bring in their own snack, but it is sad to see only a few get to eat a snack while others don't have anything to bring in.

My Project

My students have been eager to be back to school since they were out with virtual learning. However, one thing hasn't changed. They remain hungry, and hard to keep focused.

Your donation will guarantee that I can give a snack to the children each day, and they will be able to focus on their learning, and not on their rumbling bellies.

The students really look forward snack-time, even if we have a working snack-time. They are so thankful to be able to get something to refuel their bodies so they can keep learning.
