Help Ms. Mizrachi

Hello, thank you for reading my proposal! I teach a self-contained, special education classroom with an age range of 5-9 years old and grades that range first through third grade. The disabilities are vast including speech impairment, autistic, emotional disturbance, learning disabled, among others. Yes, we are in one class and we are a happy, productive group! With the multiple grades in one class, I am able to stay with each child for up to 4 years and becoming like a family. From the class, 11 out of 12 students are in low income, government assisted homes; 7 out of the 12 children have an individually appointed case worker, lawyer, or social worker concerning their home life; 3 of the 12 live with guardians and foster homes; 4 out of 12 were living in homeless shelters last year. The children are each individual marvels and need your help.

My students come in at 8am for breakfast and devour their lunch at 10:50. By 1:30, the children need a pick-me-up, a revitalizing snack that not only soothes an empty stomach but feeds the mind. Lack of food leaves the children tired and unable to unlearn, its evident when a child misses breakfast or lunch. An afternoon snack is imperative for focusing, problem solving, creating, and all aspects of learning.

The solution is simple. An afternoon snack. A granola bar, a fruit cup, a couple pretzels, such a simple gift to a hungry child can make a world of difference. Think about your own performance when you are hungry compared to when you are not. Attitude and ability are both significantly improved. It's so easy to do, merely providing a snack.

As simple and easy as it is, we cannot do it without your help. We need your generous support and donation to provide the food. Only through your generous assistance can we provide an afternoon sustenance feeding the body and minds of these needy children.
