Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is low income, and 100% of students qualify for free/reduced-price lunch. My students face a lot of challenges that I can't even imagine. However, that doesn't stop them from wanting to learn.

My kinders come to school every day ready to learn and grow their brains.

For most of them, this is the first school experience, and I am their first teacher. This is a huge responsibility as it sets students up for success for the remainder of their school years. They come in the door every day anxious to learn and full of bright ideas.

My Project

Being in school all day can be hard for kindergartners, especially with all the learning and work that we do. Students at my school get a free breakfast and lunch, but sometimes that is not enough to sustain hunger throughout the day. When students are hungry, it makes it almost impossible for them to learn. All they can focus on are their rumbly tummies.

My project focuses on getting an afternoon snack such as granola bars, graham crackers and pretzels, for my students to fight off midday hunger so we can keep learning and keep getting smart!

By providing healthy snacks, students are able to be more focused and attentive during learning time, and they are able to retain a lot more information.
