This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
There are several challenges my students face in first grade. At the age of 5 and 6 years old, it’s not their fault with the struggles they deal with on a daily basis. Some student’s not having breakfast at home and missing school breakfast time at 7:30 am because they are late to school.
My 7- and 8-year-old student’s are an amazing, diverse, hardworking, and most of the time hungry group of students.
There are days when my students have missed breakfast and really need a small snack before lunch at 12:00 pm. Being able to provide a snack bar would allow me to give them a small, quick snack to help them better. It definitely goes a long way with keeping them fueled and full until it’s lunchtime. A hungry child is simply not a happy child. The inability to focus can possibly lead to behavioral challenges just because they haven’t had a chance to eat.
While I have purchased and provided some snacks for my students, I realize that they go quickly during the week.
My students will benefit from our snack bar filled with a variety of snacks I have requested for the classroom.
