Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will help my students stay focused in school and energized. Often my students come to class without the necessary supplies and are also hungry. My students know that my classroom is a safe place that they can come and ask for anything they need. I love seeing my students' faces as they pass by and ask for a snack, pencil, crayons, paper, etc. Your contribution to this project will help my students in and out of the classroom. Some of my students have limited food at home and do not know where their next meal will come from. They do not need to worry about school supplies. The struggle is real. Each school year, these students bear the burden of knowing that their families are unable to provide the necessary school supplies. In preparation for this school year, I would like to advocate for my students to come to class prepared. Something seemingly as simple as a pencil and paper has a tremendous impact on a child's success in the classroom and in life. Donating school supplies and food creates a more equitable environment, creating more equal learning environments for students. It is the student who is not marginalized by their poverty. It is the school that is still able to create works of art, a Spanish club, science fairs as complete and enriching as any in the neighboring district. I have been able to give each child their own pencil box full of supplies. It truly makes a difference in their self-esteem and transcends into taking ownership and caring for other supplies in the classroom, of which they have very few, if any, each day. Thank you to each and every donor, no matter how big or small the donation! It means a lot!
