My Project
Hello! I teach at three elementary schools in Minneapolis Public Schools. I am lucky enough to be each school's fifth-grade band and orchestra teacher! Our district-funded Fifth Grade Music For All Program gives every student access to basic instrumental music education, including free access to an instrument, music, and weekly lessons (with me)! By having to remember their instrumental music supplies, students get a taste of the level of responsibility that's required to become a middle schooler!
My question is simple: how can I get students to remember to bring their music?
How can I fix the problem of so many kids forgetting things? Well, by giving them binders! This solves 2 problems: First, it's easy to lose a folder but much harder to lose a binder; and second, it will keep my music much more secure and stable, which hopefully means less music lost as well.
These students deserve to get as much of an advantage as humanly possible. With your help, we can help kids remember their roles in the band and orchestra while also helping me keep all of my hair, lest these kids force me to pull it all out!
